KUCCPS Explains Why Medicine, Nursing and Engineering Have Vanished From Its Portal

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has clarified why several highly competitive courses are currently unavailable on its portal, following the opening of the course revision window for the upcoming September intake.

The placement body explained that the system automatically filters out programs once institutions fill all their available slots. This measure directly impacted the first application phase, which concluded on May 6. According to KUCCPS, removing these options prevents students from wasting their choices on programs that no longer have any remaining capacity.

This automatic removal has heavily affected premier programs, including Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Engineering – disciplines that traditionally draw the largest pools of applicants each year. Students looking to revise their choices must now select from the remaining courses that still have open slots for the upcoming academic year.

“Some degree programmes such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Engineering, among others, were filled in the first application due to high demand as compared to available spaces in the programmes. Hence, they have been removed from the portal,” KUCCPS stated.

“We encourage students who applied for these programmes but missed them due to competition to apply for available programmes,” it added.

Students Frustrated After KUCCPS Drops Competitive Courses

The placement body issued this clarification after frustrated applicants flooded social media to question why their preferred courses had vanished from the system during the current revision window.

However, the shortage extends beyond traditional university degrees. Applicants targeting the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) also reported that several highly sought-after medical programs are missing from the platform.

In response, KUCCPS confirmed that overwhelming demand forced the temporary removal of these slots. However, the agency reassured applicants that these competitive programs, including Nursing, Clinical Medicine, and Pharmacy, will reopen for applications in the next window ahead of the September intake.

The agency opened the new application window on Saturday, May 16, giving students a seven-day window to complete their revisions before the portal closes on May 22.

Concurrently, KUCCPS has started sending confirmation notifications to students who successfully secured placement in the initial round. The agency cautioned those who receive these acceptance messages to stay out of the system and avoid applying again.
