Ogun Teacher Accused Of Rape Arrested While ‘Raping’ Another Girl

A teacher at Ebenezer Grammar School, Iberekodo, Abeokuta, in Ogun State, Olaniran Lateef, has been arrested for allegedly raping two girls in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.

The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Adijat Olaleye, disclosed on Wednesday in a statement that the suspect is a 43-year-old mathematics teacher.

She said the suspect was arrested on Saturday when a member of her team got a call from a young woman reporting that she had been raped.

Olaleye explained that her ministry swung into action, located the victim, and ran laboratory tests on her before she was led to the police station to make a report.

She said, “We went with the police to the suspect’s home, but after several knocks, he refused to open the gate. We were able to locate the brother of the house owner, who assisted us in gaining access to the compound.

“We also heard a girl’s cry for help, and with the support of the police, we caught Mr Olaniran Lateef Adewale.”

She added that the girl crying in the teacher’s room during his arrest also accused him of “forcibly having sexual intercourse with her and threatening to kill her if she did not ask her family to send him money.”

The commissioner said the suspect has been remanded at the Ogun state police command headquarters pending more investigation.

She added: “We use this opportunity to encourage anyone with useful information about this man to come forward, and we also encourage rape victims always to report rape cases to the ministry.

“The victims will undergo counselling to help ease this unimaginable trauma. We say no more victim shaming! And we promise to get justice for the victims.”

In a trending video online, while responding to a question from the commissioner, the suspect said he had been conversing with the girls for a long time.
