What to Watch in May

As we approach the summer months, the major cinematic blockbusters continue to hit the big screen. Last month we had “A Minecraft Movie” and “Sinners” rack up impressive numbers, enticing audiences back to their local cinema, and there is plenty for moviegoers to choose from this coming May.

We have the latest MCU entry “Thunderbolts*”, one that I am actually semi-looking forward to, and a fellow franchise sequel “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”. Tom Cruise and co will be hoping for a better box-office haul this time around having been massively impacted by the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon last time around. The other major release is Disney’s latest live-action remake, this time of the beloved 2002 animation “Lilo & Stitch”, which I am also low-key looking forward to, despite my recent Disney reservations.

There are only a couple of new horror titles coming to the big screen this month, the sensationally titled “Clown in a Cornfield”, as well as “Final Destination Bloodlines”, the sixth instalment in the long-running franchise that personally implemented a fear of log trucks I never knew I had.

Other big names you can expect to see in cinemas this month include: Nicolas Cage, in the Aussie psychological thriller “The Surfer”; Barry Keoghan, Jenna Ortega, and The Weeknd in “Hurry Up Tomorrow”; Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan reprise their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han in “Karate Kid: Legends”; and every other actor in Hollywood appears to be in Wes Anderson‘s latest caper “The Phoenician Scheme”.

Streaming on Prime Video from this month is “Another Simple Favour”, the sequel to the surprisingly enjoyable Anna Kendrick/Blake Lively thriller from 2018, and on Apple+ there is Guy Ritchie‘s take on Indiana Jones, “Fountain of Youth” starring the unbelievably attractive trio of John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, and Eiza Gonzalez.
