A team of collaborators from the Center for Genomics Pathogens Surveillance, University of Oxford today, paid a courtesy visit on the University College Hospital’s Management under the leadership of Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo at the Hospital’s boardroom.

The team leader, Prof. Iruka Okeke of the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, University of Ibadan, while speaking stated that the purpose of the visit was to design a digital epidemiology platform for National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System in the Hospital.

Represented by Deputy Chairman, MAC (Research & Ethics), Dr. Obaro Michael, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo expressed his delight to host the team, describing the Hospital’s collaboration with the University of Oxford as a transformative drive, propelling the effort of the Hospital forward in the realm of genomic pathogen surveillance.

Speaking further, Prof. Otegbayo stated that by harnessing the power of genomics, new insights into the nature of pathogens would be unlocked and revolutionize approach to disease detection, prevention and treatment, saying ‘together, we have the opportunity to make a profound and lasting impact on the health and well-being of individuals in our densely populated communities’.

The CMD in his closing remarks extended his heartfelt gratitude to the collaborators, expressing hope that the partnership continue to flourish as the shared endeavors bring about a brighter and healthier future for the coming generations.
