New UAE salary deadline rules take effect on June 1, requiring private sector companies to pay wages on the first day of each month.

DUBAI: New UAE salary deadline rules come into force on June 1, requiring all private sector companies registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) to pay employee salaries on the first day of every Gregorian month. The move is designed to strengthen wage protection, improve transparency and ensure workers receive their salaries on time.

Under the updated Wage Protection System (WPS) framework, employers must transfer wages for the previous month’s work through the approved WPS platform or another payment system authorised by MOHRE. Any salary paid after the due date is considered delayed under the new regulations.

The UAE salary deadline rules establish a unified payment date across the private sector, replacing varying payroll practices previously followed by different companies. Officials say the change will create greater consistency and reinforce employee protections across the labour market.

Authorities have also introduced a stricter enforcement mechanism for companies that fail to comply. Businesses that delay salary payments may face escalating penalties, including warning notices, monitoring measures and restrictions on new work permits if wages remain unpaid.

The reform is part of broader efforts to strengthen labour rights and enhance compliance within the UAE’s private sector. MOHRE has emphasised that timely salary payments are a key component of worker welfare and economic stability.

For employers, the changes may require adjustments to payroll schedules, financial planning and internal processes to ensure salaries are processed before the monthly deadline. Employees, meanwhile, can expect greater clarity regarding when wages should be received each month.

The UAE salary deadline rules represent one of the most significant updates to the Wage Protection System in recent years and are expected to improve payroll compliance across the country’s private sector.
