Will Scott McTominay return to the Premier League?

Here is the latest update on whether Scott McTominay will make an unexpected return to the Premier League in the 2026 transfer window.

Arguably one of the most prolific midfielders in the Serie A in 2025, Scott McTominay has returned to the headlines in the English media following rumours of an unexpected return to the Premier League in the 2026 transfer window.

A Premier League manager has responded to speculation linking his club with a surprise move for a former top-flight star, following reports that a £60m deal could bring the player back to England.

Reports have suggested that Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay could be on his way back to the Premier League after an impressive spell in Italy. The Scotland international joined Napoli from Manchester United in the summer of 2024 and enjoyed an outstanding campaign. He played a key role in helping Napoli win the league and was named Serie A Player of the Season.

Now in his second season in Italy, McTominay had a slow start but has since found his rhythm. He has recorded six goals and three assists in all competitions, including World Cup qualifying matches. In Serie A, he has featured regularly under Antonio Conte, starting eleven matches, scoring twice and providing one assist.

Despite being an important part of Conte’s squad, McTominay has been continually linked with a return to England, with Everton reportedly showing strong interest in signing him.

However, Everton manager David Moyes has played down the rumours, questioning the reported price tag. He explained that he would not normally discuss other clubs’ players but suggested that a figure of £60m would be unrealistic for Everton’s current position. Moyes stressed that the club is focused on rebuilding steadily after securing stability with new ownership, a new stadium and survival last season.

He added that Everton are not looking to make huge, ambitious moves immediately, although he did not completely rule out the possibility of big signings in the future. Moyes also pointed out that January is traditionally a difficult transfer window, even though some clubs have managed to secure important players during that period.
