Mum Left Shocked After Discovering She Had Already Given Birth While Still Asleep in Hospital

A mother has shared the incredible story of how she unknowingly gave birth to her baby while she was asleep during labour.

In a viral TikTok video, Carolina Moreno recounted the unusual birth experience, revealing that she had no idea her baby had already been delivered until medical staff were unable to find his heartbeat.

Speaking about the experience, Moreno explained that she had been diagnosed with Group B Streptococcus (GBS) when she arrived at the hospital for an induced labour. Due to the diagnosis, doctors immediately began administering antibiotics to reduce the risk of passing the bacteria to her baby.

She said her labour lasted much longer than it had with her previous two children. At the time, she was already 3 centimetres dilated and her cervix had thinned, prompting medical staff to begin antibiotics right away. A few hours later, nurses broke her water and started administering Pitocin, a medication used to stimulate labour.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Moreno recalled the frightening moment when medical staff suddenly struggled to detect her baby’s heartbeat.

“The alarm went off on the monitor, which happens when the heartbeat isn’t found, so my nurse came in to find it again,” she tells PEOPLE. “This had happened several times; my baby was very active and he liked to move.”

“Sometimes I’d adjust myself, and I’d move the monitor by accident, so we weren’t overly worried when she initially came in, and I was still pretty asleep,” she recalls.

“But as the minutes passed, I started to get worried because obviously she’s not finding him baby’s heartbeat…that’s when I really woke up.”

“I am screaming. I screamed at my husband.”

“He thought he missed the birth. He just didn’t realize we all missed the birth.”

Moreno said everyone in the delivery room was stunned when they realized the baby had already been born without anyone noticing.

Recalling the remarkable moment, she said:

“It was a huge shock to find him under the blankets…turns out he was sleeping, and he’s just a very chill baby, still to this day you just lay him down, and he falls asleep, he’s just not a crier.”

“The nurse didn’t deliver him; he delivered himself.”

“We had no idea he was even out, which is actually what made it so scary at first, since they couldn’t find his heartbeat, since he wasn’t in me anymore. We just thought something horrible had happened.”

Now that her son is three months old, Moreno said she feels incredibly grateful that everything turned out well.

“He’s also our easiest baby and the adjustment has been seamless,” she adds.

“It was incredibly scary finding him on his stomach under the blankets, not crying, but now that we know his personality, it really makes sense, he’s just the most calm baby.”

According to Moreno, her son was born in perfect health and has continued to be a calm and easy-going baby since birth.
