The Jeep Wrangler Will Soon Be Discontinued In Europe

Jeep will withdraw the Wrangler from the European market in the first half of next year. The iconic off-roader was introduced in 1986 and has had four generations since.

The current model of the JL series was introduced in 2017 and was redesigned in 2023. The British publication Auto Express reports that the Jeep Wrangler will soon leave the European range of the American brand.

Jeep dealers will reportedly stop taking orders for the SUV by the end of the year, which would match announcements that the last examples will be delivered to European customers in the first half of 2026. According to Mark Montepelos, a senior executive at Jeep in Europe, quoted by the publication, the reason for the sudden departure of the Wrangler is that the model does not comply with a number of local vehicle regulations.

This especially applies to safety standards that will come into force in mid-2026. Montepeloso noted that these regulations would require updates that would be difficult to implement in the Jeep Wrangler. As Montepeloso noted, for the legendary SUV to comply with the new regulations, the company “would have to completely rethink the Wrangler concept.”

It should be noted that last year the Wrangler received additional side impact protection and ADAS systems, including a driver drowsiness detection function. But that is not enough to meet future standards. The withdrawal of the model from the European market was also influenced by its significant harmful emissions. Thus, the Wrangler in the version with a 2.0-litre turbo gasoline engine had carbon dioxide emissions at the level of BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 in the Range Rover Sport SV model.

The SUV will remain available on the American market, where the most sought-after Jeep Wrangler is the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine (289 HP) in combination with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. American customers can order the Wrangler in the 4xe hybrid version (the basis is a 2.0-litre turbo gasoline engine) and with a 6.4-litre V8 Hemi engine (Rubicon 392 variant), in both cases paired with an 8-speed automatic.
