  • The cheapest model has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder and a 31.7 kWh battery pack.
  • Fitted to all-electric versions is a 77.94 kWh battery pack and a 255 hp rear motor.
  • Mazda will sell the EZ-60 in overseas markets as the CX-6e.

Mazda has just confirmed pricing details for the EZ-60 in China, and it’s bound to make anyone living elsewhere feel a little envious. This intriguing SUV, to be sold in both battery-electric and range-extended hybrid guises, will start at roughly the same price as a brand-new Nissan Versa costs in the US.

Announced earlier this year, the EZ-60 has been brought to life through Mazda’s joint venture partnership with Changan and will be sold overseas, where it’ll be based as the CX-6e. In China, Mazda has confirmed that prices will start at just 119,900 yuan for the Base range-extender model, or the equivalent of just $16,800.

Shoppers with a little extra money to spend can opt for the range-extended model in Pro and Max guises, starting at 129,900 yuan ($18,200) and 138,900 yuan ($19,500), respectively. All range-extender versions use a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder that functions as a generator, charging the 31.7 KWh battery. This battery powers a 255 hp electric motor at the rear axle.

Then there’s the battery-electric model. It too will be sold in Base, Pro, and Max trim levels. Prices for the cheapest of the three EVs start at 139,900 yuan or $19,600, while the Pro is available from 149,900 yuan ($21,000), and the Max starts at 160,900 yuan ($22,600).

EV Tech

Like the range-extender, the EV rocks a 255 hp electric motor driving the rear wheels. However, it ditches the combustion generator in favor of a 77.94 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack that Mazda says gives it up to 600 km of range on the lenient CLTC cycle.

While the exterior of the EZ-60 has some common Mazda traits, the interior is unlike any Mazda sold in the West. It includes a huge 26.5-inch 5K display doubling as the central infotainment screen and a display for the passenger. The automaker has also added a 100-inch augmented reality head-up display and fitted cameras instead of traditional wing mirrors.

As mentioned, the EZ-60 will be sold outside of China and badged as the CX-6e, including in Europe. Unfortunately, it won’t be offered in the United States.
