Nigeria’s Super Falcons have dropped seven places to 43rd in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Tuesday, despite retaining their position as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team.

The 10-time African champions fell from 36th to 43rd globally following a series of disappointing results in recent competitions.

South Africa, Morocco, Ghana and Zambia occupy the second to fifth positions in the African rankings, respectively.

Nigeria’s decline follows their quarter-final exit at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they suffered defeats to Malawi and Cameroon.

The Super Falcons also lost 2-1 to South Africa in the play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

However, the Nigerian side recorded two victories over Comoros in the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.

At the global level, the top five positions remain unchanged, with Spain retaining first place ahead of the United States, Germany, England and Japan.

The next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings is scheduled to be released on Monday, December 7, 2026.
