Summer Fridays’ New Lip Stains Promise 12 Hours of Transfer-Free Wear—I Put Them to the Test

The internet is no stranger to a viral beauty product. And we all know that once something skyrockets to TikTok fame, it’s only a matter of time before every brand is suddenly launching their own iteration. It could be bronzing drops, eyeshadow sticks, or whatever other product the internet deems a “must-have” overnight. Lately, that product is—without a doubt—lip stains.

Shockingly, I’ve managed to avoid lip stains until now because, honestly, they just never really appealed to me. Yes, I loved Benetint in high school like everyone else. But my fingers always ended up just as stained as my lips from blending it out. Then the peel-off lip stains everyone online loves now are way too much work to be worth the result. I’m still scarred from the peel-off face mask phase of 2016. But when I saw that my go-to brand for lip products released their own mess-free lip stain that boasts 12 hours of transfer-free wear, I knew I had to try it. Founded by Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Ireland, Summer Fridays is a California-born brand known for its commitment to clean beauty and minimalist products. Their first product, the Jet Lag Mask, is an internet favorite. But even if you somehow missed that hype, you’ve definitely seen their Lip Butter Balms raved about across every social media platform. They’re on a mission to create gentle skincare and hybrid makeup products that make you feel effortless and glowy as a summer Friday does. I can definitely see that ethos reflected in their latest launch.

As someone who doesn’t leave the house without a lip combo and is constantly doing touch-ups on the go, the promise of a product that doesn’t require hourly reapplication immediately grabbed my attention. I was completely sold when that promise was followed up with ingredients like aloe vera gel and panthenol to keep lips hydrated, soft, and support the lip barrier. The convenient, marker-like packaging also makes application incredibly easy. But do those claims actually deliver? I put them to the test to find out.

My Experience Wearing the Summer Fridays Lip Stains

The lip stains come in six shades, ranging from light pinks to deep browns. While I’d love to see an expanded color range in the future, their buildable formula makes them flattering on all skin tones. I was especially impressed with how easy it was to apply the lip stains. I mean, we all know with one wrong swipe, a lip product can take you from Kylie Jenner to Miranda Sings. Thankfully, the marker design makes these pretty much foolproof.

My personal favorite shades are Slipper and Maple, and I’ve been wearing them nonstop since I got my hands on them. Whether I’m doing a full beat or heading to the gym with no other makeup on, they add the perfect pop of color that instantly makes me look more put together.

Of course, the real test was longevity. And I’m happy to report that the color was still visible after an entire workday, including a very sweaty cardio dance workout. Even after a night out with the girls and plenty of glasses of wine, it held up without leaving a single stain on my glass. Safe to say, this product wears incredibly well. While I still needed a gloss or lip balm on top to keep up with the dry winter weather, I didn’t find them drying in the way that so many other lip stains are.

Final Verdict: Are the New Lip Stains Worth Your Money?

At $22 a pop, I definitely think the Summer Fridays Flushed Lip Stains are worth the money. While I’ll need to continue testing them over the next few months to see if the marker format causes the product to dry out more quickly, my first impressions are overwhelmingly positive. If you’re a girlie whose lip combo is just as important as her outfit when she leaves the house, this is a must-have. You can officially say goodbye to chaotically attempting to peel off a bright blue lip stain while running out the door.
