The Gbaramatu Safety Professionals Association, GSPA, in Warri South-West area of Delta State has said that the recently awarded pipeline surveillance contract by the Federal Government of Nigeria to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) will help curtail unhealthy oil and gas activities as well as curb illegal oil transactions, just as it appealed for its engagement and called on other stakeholders for collaborations.

The body made the appeal through its Pubic Relations Department on Tuesday in a congratulatory message to Tompolo on the pipeline surveillance contract, and that was signed by its president and secretary, Comr. Truston Gbenekama and Hon. Kirifede Paul, respectively.

GSPA whose membership is spread across the various communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom stressed on the important role of safety in operations and offered its professional services in collaboration with Tompolo to achieve the goal of the contract

The statement reads: "The executive and members of the Gbaramatu Safety Professionals Association officially congratulate you on the award of pipeline surveillance contract by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

"We are absolutely certain, and based on your antecedents, [that] this contract would go a long way to curtail unhealthy oil and gas activities in the creeks and land of Niger Delta, [and] also curb illegal oil transactions in the Nigerian international waterways.

"Sir, the association consist of well seasoned and experienced health, safety and environment (HSE) professionals cut across all communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom. Safety, been the operational watchword in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria; the association has a very significant role to play in the saving of lives, protection of properties, and our environment to ensure smooth operation of work.

"We therefore use this medium to seek collaboration with you to offer our professional services to achieve the target of this contract.

"Again we are also appealing to all critical stakeholders to cooperate with Tompolo for effective delivery of the job as he has opened the channels of wide consultations and the advantage of curbing these unhealthy oil activities can't be overemphasized as it will reduce the excess soot in the air capable of causing deadly diseases to our lives.

"We can't be enemies to ourselves because we are looking for our daily bread. We must be responsible in keeping our environment safe for the future or we perish by our self destructive drive for wealth through unhealthy practice."

GSPA also offered its appreciation to Tompolo for his commitment in the positive transformation of the Niger Delta region as it prayed that the Almighty God continually bless and guard him
