The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a detailed clarification addressing public reactions to the 2025 WASSCE results, saying the update is necessary “to aid a balanced national conversation.”

In the statement released on December 1, 2025, GES noted concerns raised by immediate past Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who linked students’ performance to alleged management failings within the Service. GES rejected this claim, urging the public to disregard what it described as an attempt to deflect blame.
Management said it had “taken note of attempts” to attribute the results to unsupportive practices and insisted the claims were misleading.

GES also addressed circulating reports that teachers’ allowances had been cancelled. According to the Service, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has already clarified that the November delay was not due to cancellation. “It is not true that the GES has cancelled any allowances,” the statement emphasized.

Responding to general concerns about the credibility of this year’s WASSCE, GES maintained confidence in the integrity of the process. The outcome, the Service stated, “is a credible representation of students’ abilities” and reflects genuine academic performance across the country.

The statement also highlighted measures taken to protect the integrity of the examinations, including strict directives issued to teachers and officials before the exams began. Any individual aiding or abetting malpractice, GES cautioned, would face “strong sanctions.”

According to the Service, heightened supervision, tighter invigilation, and strict adherence to protocols across exam centres contributed to the arrest of individuals who attempted to engage in malpractice this year.

GES concluded that the 2025 results signal progress in rebuilding trust in the national examination system. A credible process, it noted, “serves the best interest of our students, our schools, and the nation.”
