Onyeka assists as Brentford lose to Sunderland in dramatic finish

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka registered an assist but it was not enough to save Brentford from a 2-1 defeat against Sunderland in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

The Nigerian, making his third appearance for the Bees this season, set up Thiago in the 77th minute to break the deadlock. 

Before then, Brentford had wasted a golden opportunity in the 59th minute when Kevin Schade failed to convert from the penalty spot.

Sunderland, playing their first top-flight campaign since 2016/17, kept pressing and were rewarded eight minutes from time when Enzo Le Fee converted a penalty to bring the game level.

The Black Cats sealed all three points deep into stoppage time as Wilson Isidor rose highest to head home a dramatic winner, sending the Stadium of Light into raptures.

The victory lifts Sunderland to sixth in the Premier League table, while Brentford are left to rue missed chances despite Onyeka’s bright display.
