With environmental concerns leading governments around the world to throw ever stricter restrictions at larger and more wasteful engine configurations such as V8s and V12s, brands like Mercedes-Benz have moved towards equipping their performance models with high-powered four-cylinder engines instead. Even Aston Martin looks set to ditch its iconic V12 by the end of the decade. Not only are turbocharged four-cylinders smaller, lighter, and more efficient, but they can be made to be immensely powerful with the aid of forced induction and hybridization.
