Highlights from the Next Afrobeats Star Trials

When Nigeria’s biggest music show, Next Afrobeats Star says it’s on the hunt for the next global sensation, best believe it’s bringing the heat. Hosted by the enigmatic duo,  broadcaster and OAP Ilooise Omonhinmin and TV host Amiola Aguda, the trials kicked off in Lagos on Saturday, October 25, 2025 with star power, electrifying performances, and vibes that could light up the  country.

And of course, the judging panel had legendary Puffy Tee, hitmaker Sarz, groove genius Andre Vibez, and the prodigy, P Prime, four musical powerhouses who know what it takes to make a hit.

From the moment the lights came on, contestants delivered performances that had everyone, judges, hosts, and the audience, on their feet.

Agbo Enyojo, all the way from Benue, had a rollercoaster moment, from getting 3 yeses at first to finally landing 4 yeses after some convincing. Talk about a comeback!

Then came RMG All Stars, the first group to hit the stage. Their performance was electric. Just like the line in their chorus, they really “pa ri ishe”, and walked away with four solid nods.

First Choice took things up a notch with a daring fusion of Fuji and Afrobeats, a bold combination  that the judges couldn’t resist. Four yeses, no questions asked.

Scotty DC brought the heat with a performance over the iconic Bandana instrumental (produced by P Prime himself, no pressure right?), and of course, he earned four yeses.

Soma Wine, representing Lagos, served energy and charisma that had the audience vibing. Four yeses again!

Ayomide a.k.a Boy Drizza from Ogbomoso, Cedee, Victor (OL), Dennis (Toiner) Dave Cash and Coxxy moved to the next round. And finally, the evening’s big twist came in the form of  Lucky Yay. His name said it all. After a shaky start, the judges gave him a second chance, and he turned it all around, going from multiple nos to 4 yeses. Easily the luckiest, and most talked-about, contestant of the day.

As the show continues, one thing is clear: the hunt for the Next Afrobeats Star is about heart and unforgettable moments.

And just like the judges, we are all searching for the next hitmaker!
