Everton Football Club have confirmed the termination of Sean Dyche after spending less than two years in charge of the Merseyside club at Goodison Park.

The decision to sack Sean Dyche was announced on the official website of the club on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Everton announced their under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman had been put in charge of the team pending when a new manager will be announced.

The statement read as follows,

"Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect. Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club. The process to appoint a new manager is under way and an update will be provided in due course. Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis."

Dyche's last game in charge of Everton was the 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday, January 4, 2025, having failed to register a shot on target. The result saw them sit 16th in the Premier League and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

The contract of Dyche was due to expire in the summer having succeeded Frank Lampard on 30 January 2023 with Everton in the relegation zone. The team secured survival with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth on the final day of that season.

Everton finished in 15th place during the 2023/24 season despite being deducted eight points for two separate breaches of Premier League financial rules. Evertonians will hope that the new manager that will be appointed can take them back to their glory days.
