Enugu Masquerader Arrested and Arraigned for Assault in Viral Video

Following an incident captured in a widely circulated video, the Enugu State Police Command has apprehended a masquerader known as Oriokpa, for assaulting a woman in Nsukka.

The victim, a nurse named Miss Ogbonna, was attacked by a group of masquerades while on her way to work at the University of Nigeria Nsukka earlier this month.

The video clip depicting the assault gained significant traction on various social media platforms.

A statement released by Enugu Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe revealed that the arrested masquerader, identified as Ugwuoke Ebube, has been taken into custody and brought before the court.

Although the suspect was granted bail, the police clarified that his arrest stemmed from another assault case at the Ugwuoye junction in Nsukka.

The statement detailed, “An investigation into the incident revealed that the suspect was part of a masquerade group involved in a similar assault on a female nurse on a motorcycle, as seen in a viral video from April 2024.”

“On May 22, 2024, he appeared in the Nsukka Magistrate Court of Enugu State, Nigeria, where he was granted bail by the court,” the statement added.

Furthermore, in response to the condemnable act, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), warned against individuals using masquerade celebrations as a cover to perpetrate criminal assaults on fellow citizens.
