Cook-a-thon: Ghana’s Chef Smith is new Guinness World Record holder

Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith is the new Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

He broke the record with 802 hours and 25 minutes.

Chef Smith announced his achievement on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

Chef Smith began his cook-a-thon journey on February 1 and ended his marathon on March 6.

Initially aiming for 1200 hours, he successfully cooked for 820 hours.

He takes the record from Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours in 2023.

This comes after another Ghanaian chef, Failatu Abdul-Razak, was unsuccessful in her attempt to break the world record.

Chef Failatu had intended to beat the official 119-hour record set by Alan Fisher.

In January 2024, she spent 227 hours and some minutes in the kitchen at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.

However, a statement issued by her coordinator, broadcaster Kafui Dey, revealed that her attempt did not meet some of the stringent guidelines of the Guinness World Records (GWR).
