A Legacy of Love and Prayer: John Abiola at 60 and 30 Years of Ministry

By John Abiola

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” Psalms 90:12.

As I celebrate my 60th birthday and 30 years of ministry on January 3, 2026, my heart is filled with gratitude to God for His faithfulness and sustaining grace. This milestone offers me an opportunity to speak to the Church and the world with a burden God has placed upon my heart.

My Message to the Church and the World: A Call to Revival and Transformation

As I write today, I am reminded again of the power of prayer and the urgency of the times we live in. Nigeria and the nations of the world stand at a critical crossroads. I believe strongly that this is a moment for the Church to arise and shine with the light of the Gospel. God is stirring the hearts of His people, calling us back to Himself.

The Power of Prayer

Prayer remains the catalyst for genuine revival. My ministry journey has been built on prayer, and over the years, I have witnessed its transforming power in individuals, churches, and nations. I am convinced that Africa, and particularly Nigeria, has a significant role to play in the end-time revival. When God’s people seek His face sincerely, God responds.

Unity and Harmony in the Body of Christ

The Church is the body of Christ, and unity is essential for effective ministry. As we reflect on this milestone, I call on believers everywhere to pray earnestly for unity and harmony within the Church in Nigeria and across the globe. Let us put aside divisions and personal agendas and refocus on God’s eternal purpose.

Transformation of Nations

God’s power is able to transform individuals, communities, and entire nations. My passion has always been to see Nigeria and the world experience this divine transformation. Let us pray for our leaders, that they will seek God’s wisdom, rule with righteousness, and lead with integrity.

The Great Commission

Jesus commanded us to take the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:19–20). As part of my life’s calling, I continue to urge believers to rise in prayer for the salvation of souls and the advancement of God’s Kingdom throughout the earth.

Key Scriptures

Psalm 22:27–28 “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord and all kindreds of the nations shall worship before You.”

2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Acts 1:8: “But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in Judaea, and in Samaria, unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

A Call to Action

Let us co-labour together in prayer, faith, and obedience, trusting God to revive His Church and bring in a great harvest of souls. May this milestone mark the beginning of a fresh move of God in our generation.

A Birthday Gift from the Lord

As I reflect on my birthday in 2010, I’m reminded of the profound encounter I had with the Lord. Every year, I celebrate my birthday with fasting and prayer, crying out to God for revival in Nigeria and the world. It’s a day of consecration, where I lay aside worldly distractions and focus on seeking God’s face.

On this particular birthday, I was worshipping, praising, and seeking mercy. After hours of travailing prayers for revival in the churches of Nigeria and the nations of the world, I heard Jesus speak to me twice: “What do you want me to give you as your birthday gift?” I was faced with a choice: ask for material needs or seek something greater. My heart’s desire was clear: revival in the churches of Nigeria, Africa, America, Asia, and the world, and a harvest of souls into the Kingdom of God.

I chose to prioritize the Lord’s kingdom, and He responded with a promise from Zachariah 8:1-3. It was a moment of clarity, and I knew that God had granted my request.

My Soul-Cry Prayer for the Church, our nation and the World

Heavenly Father,
As we stand on the threshold of the soon return of Your Son, I pray that the Church will be found ready, with lamps burning and hearts prepared (Luke 12:35–40).

Awakening and Revival

Lord, send a mighty awakening and revival as in the days of Acts 2. Revive Your people again, that Your name may be glorified (2 Chronicles 7:14; Psalm 85:6).

Unity and Love

Unite Your Church, O Lord, that we may be one, just as You and Your Son are one (John 17:21–23). Let our love testify to the world (John 13:34–35).

Salvation and Discernment

Send labourers into Your harvest and grant them boldness and wisdom to proclaim the Gospel (Matthew 9:37–38; 2 Timothy 4:2). Let people from every nation come to know Jesus (Revelation 7:9–10).

Preparation and Readiness

Prepare us for Your return, Lord. Help us to watch and remain ready for the Bridegroom (Matthew 25:1–13; Ephesians 5:15–18).

Protection and Empowerment

Protect Your people from deception and empower us to stand firm in truth (Matthew 24:4–5; Ephesians 6:10–18).

Harvest and Ingathering

Let the Gospel be preached to all nations, and may Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 24:14; Matthew 6:10).

I pray all these in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, our Lord, who is coming soon. Amen.
