Veteran actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has launched a scathing attack on politicians aligned with the “City Boy Movement” (CBM), a support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, labelling them “political scavengers.”

In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, the outspoken legal practitioner-turned-politician accused members of the group of mortgaging their conscience for personal gain. He likened their alignment with the current administration to “feeding on crumbs” falling from the President’s table.

LEADERSHIP reports that Okonkwo was particularly emphatic about the South-East’s stance, insisting that the Igbo people have distanced themselves from the movement. He argued that the actions of certain politicians from the region who have endorsed the President do not represent the collective will or dignity of the Ndigbo.

“The Igbo have rejected them. It is an insult to Ndigbo. We wear our Isiagu because we hunt for our food with dignity, like lions, and eat fresh meat. We don’t scavenge like vultures,” Okonkwo stated.

He further described those seeking political favour through the movement as “political children drinking from the feeding bottle of Tinubu,” adding that he would rather maintain his dignity than seek relevance through what he termed “rotten crumbs.”

Okonkwo, who has become a prominent voice for the opposition in recent years, maintained that his livelihood has always been sustained by his talents and skills rather than political patronage.

It would be recalled that the City Boy Movement has been active in mobilising youth support for the presidency across various geopolitical zones. However, the movement continues to face stiff criticism from opposition figures who argue that the administration’s current economic policies have brought untold hardship upon the citizens they claim to represent.
