X-Chair X-Tech Executive Review

Do Your Back a Solid and Upgrade Your Daily Sitting Experience With the X-Tech Executive

X-Chair X-Tech Executive Review
It’s no secret that we spend a significant amount of our lifetimes in a seated position. Between office work, commuting, and watching our favorite television shows and movies, Americans spend an estimated eight hours a day sitting down, and while there are all kinds of ways we can counteract that, from taking regular breaks to incorporating exercise into our lives, the truth is it’s also an inescapable part of modern life, in much the same way that we spend similar amounts of time asleep. But while we’ve long caught on to the importance of a good mattress, too many people still spend their work time sitting in cheaply made, posture-destroying desk chairs. Not only is the wrong chair likely going to be uncomfortable, especially over prolonged periods of use, it can also contribute to common workplace injuries like chronic back and neck pain and even carpal tunnel syndrome. That’s why we’ve fallen in love with X-Chair’s X-Tech Executive, an ergonomic office chair that manages to deliver superior comfort and performance without sacrificing its good looks. Customizing Your X-Tech Executive Chair The first thing you’ll notice about the X-Tech Executive is just how customizable it is, with 11 different color combinations on the chair’s body, four or five different wheel color options (depending on whether you opt for locking or non-locking wheels), and some critical upgrade options that are very worth considering, including a heating, cooling and massaging pack localized to the lumbar support area of the chair (more on that later) and upgraded, pivoting arm rests. There’s even a handy augmented reality screen that allows you to view all of your customizations in real time, panning, zooming and rotating the chair in a virtual version of your own office, so you can more easily match the chair’s aesthetics to your space. Unboxing & Assembly When your X-Chair arrives, it comes extremely well packaged in nested cardboard boxes, with plenty of protective bubble wrap and inflated plastic protecting the chair’s most delicate components. Best of all, the assembly tools and necessary screws are provided on a single cardboard sheet encased in plastic, so that you can see at a glance everything you need. They even go the extra mile and include additional screws, in case you happen to misplace one. The actual instruction manual is very clear, with step-by-step instructions paired with visual aids for each step, but if you do get confused, you can also consult the Assembly section of their website for video tutorials. One person probably can manage to do the entire assembly on their own, but owing to the heavy, premium materials, we’d recommend you have a friend help you out, especially for connecting the arm rests and the back rest to the chair seat. Standout Features What separates a premium desk chair from a regular desk chair boils down to the materials and features, and until you’ve experienced just how elevated these can be, you’ll have a hard time understanding why one chair can cost $50 and another $2,000. But we’ll do our best to paint you an accurate picture. Premium Materials There are two main materials used on this chair’s touch points: vegan leather Brisa on the seat and back rest and X-Chair’s proprietary Advanced Tensile Recovery (A.T.R.) on the pivoting lumbar unit. First, the Brisa leather is incredibly soft to the touch, simultaneously supple and strong, and a total joy to sit on, even (and maybe even especially) for long periods of time. Underneath the seat surface is a Cooling Gel Memory Foam, which offers support and cushioning in equal measure, gradually contouring to the shape of your body to offer even better comfort over time. Paired with the extra-wide (22 inches) seat base, this is a recipe for all-day comfort. Finally, we need to talk about the chair base. It’s metal, and noticeably heavier than the flimsy plastic commonly used in office chairs, which helps to give this chair its generous 275-pound weight limit. Thankfully, that added weight doesn’t in the least impair the chair’s mobility, because of another standout feature: the wheels. Rollerblade-Style Wheels X-Chair calls these wheels “rollerblade-inspired,” and just touch them or set them rolling by hand and you’ll understand the comparison. The dual-bearing design does a fantastic job moving the chair across carpet, laminate or wood flooring, and they operate quietly, so as not to disturb your co-workers when you roll to the nearest printer. You can also opt to have a locking feature on each individual wheel, which is a fantastic upgrade for adding stability on slicker floor surfaces. Cooling, Heating & Massage Functions One of the cooler upgrade options is the ability to add a heat and massage or heat, cooling and massage function to the lumbar section of your chair. The massage function, available in two intensity settings and either a continuous or pulsating massage, is a welcome way to wake up tired muscles and promote better blood flow, especially after prolonged sitting, while the heating and cooling elements are perfect for soothing sore and tired muscles and offering some pain relief to a tight back. A rechargeable battery powers all of these functions, with a charging cable that operates on either USB or a standard power outlet, so recharging is also painless. Rotating Armrests The standard armrests offer four-dimensional adjustments (up, down, side-to-side and front-to-back), but you can get even more customization potential out of the upgraded FS 360 rotational armrests, which come in especially handy for those of you who work on longer desks or like to switch up your seated posture throughout the day. Customized Comfort Of course, all of the fancy bells and whistles aren’t worth much if your sitting experience isn’t comfortable and tailored to your body’s unique needs, which is why the X-Tech Executive offers as many adjustment options as a premium car seat. You can adjust both the seat height and depth, as well as the angle of the lumbar unit to offer the best possible support for the curve of your lower back. The seat back tilts and reclines to your liking, and locks in place when you find your particular cozy spot, while the head rest cleverly tilts backwards and forwards and can be adjusted up or down in height. The more time you spend sitting in this chair, and the more time you spend experimenting with its many functions and customization options, the sooner you’ll realize the design engineers at X-Chair truly thought of everything. The only downside? You’ll have a hard time sitting in any other chair in the future.
