Woman arrested for setting fire to the Alpha Hour auditorium

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a woman on suspicion of igniting a fire in the auditorium of Grace Mountain Chapel, which is overseen by Pastor Elvis Agyemang, the founder of Alpha Hour.

The event took place on the evening of Monday, February 9, 2026, during a tranquil time at the auditorium, when the accused allegedly feigned prayer.

Surveillance footage from the church reveals the woman applying a combustible liquid to chairs situated near the altar prior to igniting them.

The church’s security personnel acted promptly and successfully contained the fire before it could spread further.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the damage to the property was minimal.

In response to the incident, Pastor Agyemang Elvis has declared a temporary halt to all in-person prayer gatherings at the auditorium.

“If you come here today, it will not be open, but it will not stop us. We will repair the place, and prayers will continue,” he stated.

He further mentioned that the suspect is presently in police custody as enquiries proceed to ascertain her motive and whether she acted independently or with others.

Alpha Hour is a popular daily one-hour prayer session that commences at 12 a.m. GMT and is broadcast live on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Zoom.
