Why I snubbed Chelsea – Fermin Lopez

Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has explained why he turned down the chance to join Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old attracted interest from the Premier League side but opted to remain at the Camp Nou, where he has been since his early teenage years.

“The Chelsea offer? In the end, my priority has always been to stay at Barça,” Lopez told TouchlineX.

“I came here when I was 12 years old. It’s always nice to have another club interested in you, but I always had the idea of continuing at Barça and succeeding here.”

Lopez’s current contract with Barcelona runs until 2029, underlining the club’s long-term faith in him.

Barça manager Hansi Flick also weighed in on Chelsea’s pursuit of the midfielder earlier in the summer, noting that the club always considered Lopez an important part of their project.
