Now that Tesla has confirmed that Cybertruck deliveries will begin on November 30, 2023, the new challenge for the all-electric vehicle company is the reservations, which has exceeded expectations.

According to CEO Elon Musk, the Cybertruck has no demand issue as over 1 million customers have already reserved the all-electric pickup truck — which is a different production challenge for Tesla.

“Over a million people have reserved the car, so it is not a demand issue. We can make it, and we can make it at a price people can afford—insanely different things,” said Elon Musk.

Speaking on Tesla’s Q3 earnings call on Wednesday, Musk told investors ‘we dug our own grave with the Cybertruck’ as it would take years for the company to ramp up production of the electric pickup.

“It’s one of those special products that comes along only once in a long while. And special products that come along once in a long while are just incredibly difficult to bring to market to reach volume, to be prosperous”, he added.

Musk also warned it could take as long as 18 months before cash flow from the vehicle was positive.

“I do want to emphasize that there will be enormous challenges in reaching volume production with the Cybertruck and then making the Cybertruck cashflow positive — this is simply normal,” he said.

“When you’ve got a product with a lot of new technology or any brand new vehicle program, especially one that is as different and advanced as the Cybertruck, you will have problems proportionate to how many new things you’re trying to solve at scale,” Musk added.
