US lobbying: I Don’t Even Know Where To Begin. It Shows The Misplaced Priorities Of This Govt-Oladipo Johnson,

According to a report by the Punch on Thursday, January 15, 2026, opposition parties have launched a unified attack against the Federal Government over a disclosed $9 million contract for lobbying services in the United States. The African Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, and Labour Party have all condemned the expenditure. They argue it highlights a severe disconnect from the pressing economic hardships and security challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.

The contract, aimed at influencing U.S. perception of Nigeria’s efforts to protect Christians, has been labeled a costly and misguided venture. Critics contend that the administration is more focused on managing its international image than on implementing concrete solutions to domestic crises. This has sparked accusations that the government is prioritizing optics over the welfare of its citizens.

Expressing clear frustration, the National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP, Oladipo Johnson, questioned the decision’s rationale. He remarked, “I don’t even know where to begin. It shows the misplaced priorities of this government.” Johnson further argued that proper diplomatic channels, such as a fully resourced ambassadorial presence, would be more effective and legitimate than hiring expensive external lobbyists.

The ADC provided an even sharper rebuke, stating that no overseas public relations campaign could obscure the tragic reality within Nigeria. The party emphasized that the fundamental duty of any government is to protect its people, a responsibility it claims the current administration has failed to uphold. The PDP echoed this, dismissing the lobbying effort as a pointless waste of resources that does nothing to address the root causes of insecurity or economic decline.

This coordinated criticism underscores a deepening political rift regarding the government’s allocation of national resources. The opposition’s core argument is that genuine security, economic stability, and effective governance—not costly international propaganda—are the only true foundations for a reputable and prosperous Nigeria.
