Around two months after Lucid unveiled its first vehicle, the Air sedan, it revealed a longer-range version called the Air Dream Edition. Now that it has finally shown off its second vehicle, an SUV called the Gravity, the clock is counting down to an equivalent, limited edition model that can drive farther, the company’s CEO hinted.

Revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show yesterday, the Lucid Gravity is already expected to become one of the longest-range electric SUVs on the market. Although it’s targeting 440 miles (708 km) of driving between charges, the automaker said that the EV will have around half as many battery cells as some of its competitors, suggesting that it could probably fit more underneath.

When asked if a longer-range Dream edition was coming down the pipeline, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson told Autocar “I won’t be denying it. Am I that predictable?” Unfortunately, he refused to say how many miles the upcoming special edition model will be capable of going per charge.

For reference, when it announced the Air, Lucid promised a range of 400 miles (644 km). Then, the Dream Edition model, which was limited to just 520 examples, came around with an EPA-certified ability to drive for 520 miles (837 km) between visits to the charging station.

Unfortunately, Rawlinson would not confirm how many longer-range, special edition SUVs the Lucid was hoping to make, either, but said that “if we were to do, hypothetically, a Gravity Dream Edition, it might be limited to over 440 units.”

Expected to go into production in late 2024, Lucid has plenty of time to work on special edition models before initial deliveries begin. It also has plenty of time to reveal salient details about the standard Gravity, such as how big its battery is and how much horsepower it makes.

However, from what we do know — 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds, 440 miles (708 km) of range, up to 112 cubic-feet of cargo space, and a sub-$80,000 starting price — the Gravity will be an impressive SUV no matter which version you get.
