Ukraine’s SBU Detains Church Singer for Alleged Role in Directing Russian Attacks

On Tuesday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) arrested a church choir singer affiliated with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP), charging her with directing Russian rocket attacks against Ukrainian Armed Forces positions near Zaporizhzhia. The detainee, identified as the wife of the local church's rector, allegedly provided coordinates to Russian occupiers aiming to target defense force bases in the vicinity of the regional center, particularly temporary deployment points of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units conducting counter-offensive operations in the Berdyansk and Melitopol directions.

Unmasking the Alleged Informant

The SBU located and arrested the alleged Russian informant near Zaporizhzhia at her residence. The investigation revealed that since the full-scale Russian invasion, the suspect had been supporting the invaders' criminal actions and expressed hopes for the occupation of the entire southern region of Ukraine. Her views, frequently shared with acquaintances in Moscow during phone conversations, painted a clear picture of her alignment.

A Dangerous Liaison

Later, the suspect started tracking the concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the community. She transmitted this information through a messenger to her contacts in Russia, who then reported to Russian intelligence services. During a search of her residence, a mobile phone used to disseminate this confidential information was discovered, further solidifying the charges against her.

Charges and Implications

The SBU has charged the suspect under Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for the unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement, or location of weapons, military equipment, and ammunition in Ukraine, committed during martial law.
