Tesla plans to increase production at its factory in Grünheide near Berlin in 2026, despite the difficult market situation in Germany. Production had already grown in every quarter of last year as planned, said factory director Andre Thierig in an interview with dpa.

“That is why we are optimistic about the new year and expect further growth,” he said, describing the current situation as “stable.”

According to the company, around 11,000 employees at what it calls the Gigafactory in the state of Brandenburg produce around 5,000 vehicles per week, which is equivalent to around 250,000 vehicles per year.

“We have managed to secure jobs here and have never been hit by production disruptions or layoffs like other industrial sites in Germany,” Thierig said.

The location was expanded in 2025 with significant investments not only in the launch of the model but also in the construction of a new building for pre-production vehicles.

Canada has also been added as a market, he said, allowing customers in that country to buy vehicles from Grünheide at a lower price because they are not subject to higher U.S. import duties.

The automotive industry is in a global crisis of profitability. In Germany, the electric car market has rebounded. However, Tesla is still struggling: from January to November 2025, 17,358 new Tesla cars were registered, according to the Federal Motor Transport Administration, representing a decrease of approximately 48 percent.
