Tekashi 6ix9ine Turns Himself In to Brooklyn Jail to Serve 90-Day Sentence

American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has officially turned himself in to authorities to begin serving a 90-day jail sentence after violating the conditions of his supervised release.

The rapper reported to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on Tuesday, January 6, at about 2 p.m., where he will spend the next three months behind bars.

6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was first indicted in 2018 in connection with a federal racketeering case involving a criminal group he was previously associated with. After pleading guilty to conspiracy and several other charges, he later cooperated with investigators in exchange for a reduced sentence.

His recent return to custody comes after authorities determined that he violated the terms of his supervised release.

The rapper was accompanied by popular streamer Adin Ross when he surrendered. Before entering the detention center, 6ix9ine appeared in a nearly two-hour live stream where he was seen surrounded by friends who joined him for an emotional send-off.

During the live stream, content creator Stephen Deleonardis helped remove the rapper’s ankle monitor as he prepared to turn himself in.

According to his legal team, 6ix9ine is expected to be housed separately from the general inmate population due to his high-profile status.

His attorney also revealed that the rapper is eager to complete his sentence, move forward from this chapter of his life, and return to focusing on his music career once he is released.
