Super Eagles Ready to enjoy AFCON Semi-Final test against Morocco – Ogbu

Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has said Nigeria will approach today’s AFCON 2025 semi-final against hosts Morocco with confidence and freedom, insisting the team is ready to enjoy the occasion.

Nigeria continue their pursuit of a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title when they face Morocco at the 69,500-capacity Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Both sides head into the last-four clash unbeaten, with the Atlas Lions recording four wins and a draw, while the Super Eagles have won all five of their matches.

The encounter marks the second AFCON semi-final meeting between Nigeria and Morocco. Their first clash at this stage came in 1980, when the Super Eagles secured a 1-0 victory on home soil on their way to lifting the trophy.

With another place in the final at stake, the two continental heavyweights are set to renew their rivalry. Speaking ahead of the match, Ogbu, who has featured in several games at the tournament, acknowledged Morocco’s quality but stressed that the Super Eagles are unfazed by the hosts’ star-studded squad and are focused on expressing themselves on the pitch.

“Morocco has good players, they are a fantastic team but at this point I don’t think we want to focus on them,” Ogbu told journalists before the team’s training on Tuesday. “We want to focus on our own team, we will just go there and have fun.”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will be without their captain Wilfred Ndidi due to suspension.

The former Leicester City star received his second yellow card in the knockout stage in the quarter-final clash with Algeria.

Club Brugge midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, is expected to fill in for the suspended Ndidi.

Onyedika, who came on in the game against Algeria, has two goals in the tournament.

The midfielder got both goals in the 3-1 win against Uganda in the Super Eagles’ final group fixture.
