The ongoing Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has witnessed the absence of sitting governors from the South-South region, despite the presence of key stakeholders like former President Goodluck Jonathan and some former governors.

According to reports, while Jonathan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and some stakeholders from other zones, including Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, were present, only Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri was physically present among the South-South governors.

Other governors from the region sent their deputies to the summit.

The summit aims to discuss “Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta Region”.

Notable former governors in attendance included Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Donald Duke (Cross River), and Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa).

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the host, was represented by the State’s Head of Service, George Nwaeke. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is at odds with Fubara, was absent as of press time.
