The Vatican announced on Thursday that Pope Francis had injured his right forearm in a fall at his residence, but thankfully did not sustain any fractures.

The 88-year-old Catholic pontiff, who has been leading the Church since 2013, often relies on a cane or wheelchair for mobility due to knee and back pain.

“This morning, due to a fall at the Santa Marta house, Pope Francis suffered a contusion on his right forearm, without fractures. The arm was immobilised as a precautionary measure,” a statement said.

Over the past few years, Pope Francis has faced health challenges including influenza and related issues. He underwent surgery in 2021 for diverticulitis and had another surgery in 2023 to repair a hernia.

Despite these health concerns, the Pope recently stated in his autobiography that he has no plans to resign, following in the footsteps of his predecessor Benedict XVI.
