The opposition has described the Oyo Local Government Election as a charade, anti-democratic and usurpation of the rule of law and abuse of the constitution. Remember that the OYSIEC in charge of the local government election in the state announced the 33 candidates of the PDP as winners of the recently concluded election. They accused the electoral body of deliberately coming at their own will to conduct the election, preventing some materials from the elections from getting to the opposition candidates, harassing and invading the electoral premises with thugs and state-sponsored sycophants and withholding and handing the result to the state government, which is an interested party.

That is how all these charades are perpetrated. Until the local government regains its autonomy and desist from being a grinding tool in the hands of the state government, no opposition parties will wrestle power from the lord of the minors who have made themselves so powerful and so unbearing to the liberty of its citizens and the rule of law. Come let me show you some grievances of some opposition parties below.

Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, the OYSIEC Chairman, affirmed the results and declared the PDP victorious after presenting results from all 33 local government areas where elections took place.

Allegations have also claimed that elections did not occur in certain wards, notably in Ibadan North, Ibadan South West, and parts of Saki in the Oke Ogun axis of the state.

Some of the PDP chairmanship candidates declared winners are: Kehinde Akande (Ibadan South West); Akeem Olatunji (Oluyole); Sikiru Sanda (Egbeda); Olusola Oluokun (Oyo East); Oyedokun Oyeniyi (Ogbomoso South); Adeleke Olusola (Ibarapa Central); Akinola Olaleye (Saki West); Kazeem Olayanju (Olorunsogo); Kazeem Arogundade (Ibarapa East); and Aikomo Olufemi (Afijio).

However, the state chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC), has rejected the results of the election.

The party accused the state electoral body and the PDP of orchestrating “a show of shame and a monumental electoral heist that should not be acknowledged by well-meaning Nigerians”.

“The Chairman and other party members were beaten and unlawfully detained, and several of our candidates’ wards were disrupted by PDP thugs. Evidence of all these fraudulent acts is properly documented online; many of which were even posted by eligible voters in Oyo State who were grossly disappointed at the show of shame displayed by Seyi Makinde.It is evident that the OYSIEC chairman, Isiaka Olagunje, danced to the tune of the Makinde government, undermining the integrity expected of an electoral process. The people of Oyo State have lost trust in the OYSIEC chairman and he should be sanctioned, investigated, arrested, and prosecuted as an electoral offender.”

A total of 19 political parties fielded candidates for various positions across the 33 local government areas.
