Omanyala Shuts Down Kenyans After Snubbing IShowSpeed

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has responded to the backlash from some Kenyans after he declined to race popular streamer IShowSpeed during the YouTuber’s recent tour of Kenya.

Speaking in an interview, the Commonwealth champion explained that his decision was based on professionalism, sponsorship obligations, and the risks involved in exhibition.

Not an Influencer, but a Professional Athlete

Omanyala made it clear that he does not operate in the same space as online content creators whose careers depend on constant public engagement.

According to the sprinter, his primary job is running, and that is what major companies, including Adidas and Toyota, pay him to do; every appearance, race, and public activity must align with strict contractual obligations.

Omanyala taking part in an informal exhibition race with a social media personality could create conflicts with sponsors, especially if it involves promotional content, filming, or posting on social platforms.

“I’m not an influencer man, I do this for money and I have big companies Adidas, Toyota, these guys are paying me because of running so me coming to do something like an exhibition run that means I have to post some of the things that I’m doing and come to you know for him after that run god forbid he gets an injury he continues in the streams even with crutches but for me what happens you know I need to earn from running so that’s why I need to cover my cases,” said Omanyala.

Another key factor that Omanyala highlighted was the risk of injury during the race.  A minor strain or muscle tear could sideline him for weeks or months, affecting not only his performance but also his earnings and future competitions, since he depends on it to earn. For the sake of Ishowpeed, he continues to stream even on crutches.

Possible Endorsement that Omanyala Could Get

Racing with IShowSpeed would have offered Omanyala marketing and branding advantages that go far beyond a simple exhibition race.

Currently, Ishowspeed has over 48 million subscribers, and his single livestream draws hundreds of thousands of viewers from all parts of the world.

 Such exposure could boost his personal brand, grow his social media following, and make him more recognizable all over the world.
