Okada’s title isn’t in jeopardy, but he’s not happy about what he won either

They haven’t been the best bouts of his career or anything, but AEW Unified champion Kazuchika Okada has been putting on a series of good, entertaining television matches the last couple months. The latest came on Nov. 19’s three-hour-plus Dynamite and Collision broadcast, the last before AEW’s Full Gear PPV this Saturday. It was a “Double Jeopardy” affair versus CMLL Trios champ Mascara Dorada, where the winner got a shot at the other’s title.

The Rainmaker’s win via Rainmaker meant Okada’s manager Don Callis got to name two stablemates as the Unified champ’s teammates for a CMLL Trios title match against Dorada and his El Sky Team partners Místico and Neón. And that meant AEW could stack the next block as they slowly build to a showdown between Okada and reigning IWGP World Heavyweight champ Konosuke Takeshita. Callis announced The Alpha will be back from Japan on Saturday for the PPV’s television preview show, Tailgate Brawl on TNT at 7 p.m. ET. Okada and Takeshita will once again try to co-exist, teaming with Hecichero before Full Gear.

Man, Hecichero was really going through the emotional ringer there behind Don at the end. Anyway… this should put Okada in the ring with Mistico. And this wrestling fan thinks that’s pretty cool, even if I’m ready to get on with Okada/Takeshita. The stalling will likely continue until after both men’s trip to the Tokyo Dome for New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom 20 on Jan. 4 of the coming year. Might as well get two of the biggest non-WWE stars in the world in the ring together for a minute or two.
