My Husband regrets having our kids

He’s an amazing husband and father. Even though he grew up in a broken home, he swore to be the best dad and husband, and honestly, he has kept that promise. I’ve known him for 10 years, and we’ve been married for eight. Together, we have four kids.

The way he takes care of the children melts my heart — prepping them for school every morning and tucking them into bed every night. There’s no doubt he loves them to the moon and back, and the kids adore him just as much. To them, he’s the best daddy and their hero.

But here’s the problem. Last Saturday, we decided to play Truth or Dare to spice up our love life. During the game, he confessed something that’s been stuck in my mind since. He said that if he ever had another life, he would still choose me over and over again, but he wouldn’t want our kids in the picture.

Now, it’s not that our kids are sick or troublesome. We have one girl and three boys. All of them are healthy, smart, and topping their classes. They’re sweet, dutiful, and such a blessing. So hearing him say that broke me.

When I tried to talk to him about it, he brushed it off. He says I am making a mountain out of a molehill. He is not one to make meaningless utterances. Before he says something like this, it must have come from deep within him.

To me, it sounds like he regrets having the kids, and that thought shatters me. I am wondering if it’s because of the polar differences in their personalities. He is an introvert while the kids are extroverted. Could it be that they overwhelm him? He is refusing to talk so my mind keeps wandering places in search of the problem.

I’m thinking we should go for therapy so he can open up about whatever’s weighing on him. Maybe then I can understand and help him manage it.

Or… am I just being dramatic?
