A middle-aged man identified as Peter Orji, a native of Uruagu in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State has surrendered himself to the police after he shot his elder brother, Godwin Orji, dead during an argument over an electricity bill.

According to reports, the deceased and Peter live in their family compound in Okpunoeze, Uruagu. An argument ensued between both men after the suspect failed to pay his monthly electricity bill of N1500, leading to the disconnection of power from his apartment.

Eyewitnesses say the brothers had a heated argument as Peter was angry that his power supply was disconnected. It is alleged that during the argument, an enraged Peter went into his apartment, grabbed his gun, came out, and shot at his brother who died instantly. After committing the crime, Peter ran to the nearest police station and surrendered himself, for the fear of being mobbed.

Residents of the community say the brothers have been at loggerheads over their family land.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the suspect has surrendered himself to the police and that the matter has been transferred to the State CID, for further investigation.
