Porsche says third-gen Cayenne model will live alongside the upcoming electric model into the 2030s.

The German brand says the current Cayenne will continue to get updates after receiving major changes for 2024.

Porsche promises to improve the efficiency of the Cayenne’s V-8 engine to meet future emissions regulations.

Move to retain the V-8 beyond the 2030s doesn’t mean Porsche has completely abandoned its electrification efforts.

Porsche has confirmed that the third-generation, gas-powered Cayenne model will live into the 2030s alongside the upcoming electric fourth-generation model that is set to arrive by the middle of this decade.

According to the German brand, the Cayenne will be offered in three powertrains past 2030, though it said efforts will be made to improve on the V8 drivetrain option to meet future emissions regulations.

“Extensive technical measures will ensure that the twin-turbo [V8] engine is ready to comply with future legislative requirements,” Porsche explained in a statement.

“Up to and beyond 2030, the successful SUV will be offered with three powertrain variants worldwide,” it added.

The current-gen Cayenne, which arrived in the market as a 2019-year model, received a major overhaul for 2024, adopting a sleeker design and saw the introduction of a twin-turbo V-8 in the S, GTS and Turbo versions.

The move to retain the 4.0-litre V8 beyond the 2030s doesn’t mean Porsche has completely abandoned its electrification efforts as it aims to have more than 80 percent of its deliveries to be fully electric in 2030.

Porsche could “deliver more than 80 per cent of our new cars fully electrified in 2030 – depending on the demand of our customers and the development of electromobility,” said Porsche AG CEO, Oliver Blume.

Earlier this month, the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer said it delivered 155,945 sports cars to customers between January and June 2024. With 54,587 units, the Cayenne recorded the most deliveries in the first half of the year (+16 percent).
