President Emmanuel Macron on Monday said France “will do everything possible” to avoid a Middle East “conflagration”, urging Israel to aim to isolate Iran rather than escalate the conflict. Noting that the situation in the region was “very unstable”, Macron said Iran’s response to the deadly April 1 strike on its consulate in Damascus was “disproportionate”.
