Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, son of former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned his appointment as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Governor Abba Yusuf cabinet.

Kwankwaso announced his resignation on Monday in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, thereby ending his membership of the Kano State Executive Council.

In the statement, he expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the people of Kano State, describing his time in office as rewarding and instructive.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he said.

He also prayed for sustained government commitment to youth empowerment and sports development in the state. “As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve. I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come.”

Kwankwaso’s resignation is the latest in a growing list of exits of officials believed to be loyal to the Kwankwasiyya Leader following Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

LEADERSHIP reports the Kano State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, had also resigned his appointment. The governor’s Political Adviser, Hon. Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, equally tendered his resignation over the development.
