Over the last two decades, three automakers have emerged as the kings of outright speed. Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Hennessey are at the forefront of taking road-legal production cars to new heights, and while there have been surprise entrants like the Yangwang U9 Xtreme and Shelby SuperCars, it's the three aforementioned brands that dominate any conversation on top speed records. But after a few years of rapidly tumbling records, things have quietened down, and while the three manufacturers each have cars capable of setting new records, none of them has attempted it yet. Why?
