Japan Warns Israel of ‘New Measures’ if it Blocks Two-State Solution

According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, Japan has issued a stern warning to Israel, cautioning that it will consider “new measures and a response” if Tel Aviv continues actions that undermine prospects for a two-state solution in Palestine.

Speaking at a United Nations conference on Palestine in New York, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya reiterated Tokyo’s long-standing support for Palestinian statehood.

“Japan fully supports the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state,” Iwaya declared. “Should Israel take further actions that block the path to the realization of a two-state solution, Japan will be compelled to introduce new measures and a response.”

Iwaya underscored that Japan views Palestinian statehood not as a matter of “if” but of “when,” signaling that Tokyo’s patience with Israeli policies is wearing thin.

The minister strongly condemned Israel’s continued settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, its moves toward annexation, and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“The sharp deterioration of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the expansion of settlement activities in the West Bank, and the step towards annexation are completely unacceptable,” Iwaya said. “Japan strongly condemns these actions and calls on Israel to immediately cease all such unilateral measures.”

He added that the situation has reached “a grave and alarming juncture that threatens the very foundation of a two-state solution.”

Japan has resisted formally recognizing Palestine, even as several of its allies, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, and others, have done so in recent weeks. But Iwaya’s comments suggest that Tokyo is now weighing its options more seriously.

Japan has taken steps in the past to signal its disapproval of Israeli policies. In July 2024, Tokyo imposed sanctions on four Israeli settlers for their role in violent attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank — a rare punitive measure against Israel by an Asian power.

At the UN gathering, Iwaya also emphasized Japan’s “tangible contributions” to reconstruction efforts in the occupied territories and pledged that Tokyo would “continue its comprehensive deliberations with even greater seriousness” to ensure a sustainable Palestinian state that can coexist peacefully with Israel.

The conference came just one day before the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly and only days after UN investigators concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, where more than 65,300 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
