It was Triple H all along: Drew McIntyre credits WWE boss for famous line

Drew McIntyre shrugs

Drew McIntyre has long been an impressively talented professional wrestler who has made one hell of a career for himself. He took himself to an entirely new level when he went opposite CM Punk in 2024 in a feud that was widely regarded as one of the best of the entire year in the entire industry.

It was during said feud that he delivered a moment, and a line, we’ll never forget.

It turns out, Triple H deserves the credit for it.

Back in Jan. 2024, an emotional Punk revealed he was going to have to miss WrestleMania and McIntyre interrupted to talk about how he could relate to him but he wanted him to know “I prayed for this and it happened.”

The video to remind you of how great it was then and still is now:

During a chat with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre revealed it was Triple H who put engineered the promo:

“I mean, I knew talking to Triple H during the day that ‘this is going to be so good.‘ Like, I had an idea and it was too much. It would have offended a lot of people, which I’m very good at. He helped me reel it back, and then Hunter himself came out with the line, which I ended up using because I had such an extreme version, and he dialed it back in the way he said it and the cadence of how it’s to be said. He said it like that and I just went… I got so excited. He’s obviously a savant when it comes to this business. The things sometimes though he comes up with, I go, ‘How do you think of that?’… It was like, ‘That is genius. Oh my God, that is going to be so good.’ And I know as a fan, I would lose my mind. Didn’t think I’d be seeing it to this day for everything, no matter if it’s sports or outside of wrestling. Constantly has me pointing, ‘I prayed for this and it happened.’ But I knew in that moment when Hunter delivered the line back to me by toning me down a little bit, I went, ‘Wow, that is genius.’ Because I am going to use that exact tone.”

Credit where it’s due.

Just think he’s been hanging in Hollywood for a while now, his delivery should only be getting better. All the more reason to be excited about his “friggin big” eventual return.

Right?
