Imo Assembly 2027: Why I want to represent Ezinihitte Mbaise Constituency, says Engr Onyenekwe

As the nation begins to countdown to the 2027 general elections, an Engineer in the Oil and Gas sector from Udo na Obizi Ward, Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA of Imo State, Engr Nze Chimezie Thaddeus Onyenekwe popularly known as Mokwai by his admirers, has revealed why he wants to be the next legislator to represent the people of Ezinihitte Mbaise State Constituency. He spoke with Eze Adiuku in this interview. Happy Reading;

Our readers will like to know who you are and what you do for a living?

My name is Engr. Nze Chimezie Thaddeus Onyenekwe. Nze Ejiofor, Chief Odoziobodo (a.k.a MOKWAI). The Action Peoples Party (APP) Candidate for Imo House Of Assembly Ezinihitte Constituency come 2027.

I work as an Engineer ( Operations Manager) in the Oil and Gas Industry in Port Harcourt.

The 2027 General Elections are just around the corner, not even one year from now. You are interested in representing your constituency, Ezinihitte. Why do you want to run for the election?

I have actually seen and experienced the lack of proper representation in our Ezinihitte over the years, and I feel this is the time for me to come out and show our people what real governance or representation is in the true sense of the word.

Your ward -Udo na Obizi, has never produced a lawmaker since 1999. Are you not worried that your community, Obizi, has been dormant politically?

I am so worried and disturbed that Udo na Obizi Ward has been dormant since the return of democratic rule in 1999.

The worry and concern come from the fact that in Udo na Obizi even before we were born and after we were born, has been a cynosure of all other towns and communities in Ezinihitte. I can remember back then while growing up, when you go outside Udo na Obizi and mention names like Dr Aaron Ogbonna, Eze Raymond Ekenna, J.I.J.Otuka, C.O.P. Uzo, Eze Barr. B.S.C Nzenwa, A.C. Njoku, Nna Anyi Nwankwo, Odibo, Nze Kwekwe, Chief Surv. Damian Nzenwa ( May their beautiful and progressive souls rest in perfect pece. Amen), people will immediately ask you if you are from Udo or Obizi.

I tell you for free, I am not an ambitious person. I was approached and called upon by men and women of good will and integrity to come and run for IMO State House Of Assembly.

My election and campaign will be majorly funded by men of good will, men and women who have political and organic structures.

Today we remember those names and so many others with nostalgia not just only the political representation but also the progressive and developmental attraction associated with their names.

People used to come from far and near to fetch pipe-borne water in Obizi back then, we have one of the best hospitals with world class structures in Imo State back then and we also have schools that produced what so many metropolitan schools are yet to produce.

To also be kind and fair to this our generation, so many individuals have equally written their names in gold in terms of development and attraction of infrastructures too. History will never forget them on the day of reconning.

Surprisingly, Udo na Obizi today is lagging behind politically, and we are here to say no, we do not belong there. That is exactly one of the reasons why I want to change the narrative.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, as the ruling party has witnessed a surge of defections to her platform. Do you think any opposition party stands a chance at the polls in 2027?

The wave of defection does not assuage the rate of depression, frustration, hunger and anger of the people.

We are all living witnesses to what happened in 2023. Many people today, became Senators, House of Representative Members, House Of Assembly Members, LGA Chairmen and even Governor just because people decided to vote for integrity and people with quality track records rather than political parties.

Today, we have all heard of the wonders Dr Chima Mathew Amadi ( Mazi Gburugburu) of APP is doing with personal and private resources.

The electorate will massively vote for Dr Chima Amadi and other men of good will with verifiable track records like me Engr. Chief Chimezie Onyenekwe (MOKWAI) come 2027.

Can you give an honest assessment of representation at the Imo House of Assembly for Ezinihitte Mbaise State Constituency?

The only honest and sincere assessment of representation at the Imo House of Assembly for Ezinihitte that I would want to give is that No Representation Has Ever Come From Udo na Obizi since 1999 ( Go and verify) according to my Oga, Mr Peter Obi.

Again, representation here has never been good irrespective of the lens through which you look at our constituency representation.

Do you believe in the Imo Charter of Equity. If yes, should Owerri zone be the favoured one to produce the next Governor after Sen. Uzodimma?

I want to unequivocally state here that I am a firm believer of the Imo State Charter Of Equity.

Having said that, I strongly believe also that the next Governor of Imo State will be coming from Owerri Zone and that person that will occupy the Douglas House come 2027 is no other person than Dr Chima Mathew Amadi.

How do you see the chances of Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha in the Governorship election come 2027?

I also want to say that I like Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and that he has always had my vote and support.

I became so disappointed likewise so many people when we were all relaxing and thanking God for coming through for us only for us wake up one very bad day to hear that he has been sacked by the supreme court.

I would want him to relax this time around and let us try Dr Chima Mathew Amadi (Mazi Gburugburu) especially now that Mazi Gburugburu is not corrupt politically.

Election involves money to mobilize, publicize and even in building structures. Do you have what it takes to go to achieve your ambition?

I understand that election involves money to mobilize, publicize and even building structures.

I tell you for free, I am not an ambitious person. I was approached and called upon by men and women of good will and integrity to come and run for IMO State House Of Assembly.

My election and campaign will be majorly funded by men of good will, men and women who have political and organic structures.

We have not yet started and we are getting heart warming feed back and assurances of organic support.

The election support base will be pure organic and largely tsunami like kind of Social Movement.
