I am happy to play football again – Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface has said he is happy he can play football again after he scored his first goal of 2024 following a four-month injury layoff.

The Super Eagles striker came off the bench late on to score in stoppage time for Bayer Leverkusen to beat West Ham 2-0 in a UEFA Europa League quarterfinal first leg.

“I feel good, I feel happy to be playing football again,” a relieved Victor Boniface said.

“It was not easy after being injured for two, three months, I missed a lot of games and I am still trying to come back.

“I am happy to come and help my team.”

West Ham held out against Bundesliga table toppers Bayer Leverkusen before subs Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface came on to make the difference in the closing minutes.

“We played West Ham in pre-season and so we know the type of game they play,” he said.

“The important thing was to be patient, play our style and convert our chances when they come and that’s what we did.”

Bayer Leverkusen will be crowned champions of Germany for the first time in their history Sunday should they beat Werder Bremen at home.

“I am looking forward to help my team any time I am called upon, we have a game on Sunday, which is a big game for us,” he said.
