HEWAN felicitates Ogunbanwo on appointment as Permanent Secretary

The Health Writers Association of Nigeria (HEWAN) has congratulated Mr. Olatunbosun Ogunbanwo, Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, on his appointment as a Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Public Service, which took effect on October 13, 2026.

Ogunbanwo had served as Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Health and previously held the same position at the Ministry of Agriculture before his new assignment.

In a statement signed by the HEWAN president, Vivian Ihechu and secretary, Temitope Obayendo on Tuesday, the association lauded Ogunbanwo for his outstanding performance in public and contributions to health sector in Lagos.

HEWAN described the appointment as a recognition of Ogunbanwo’s nearly three decades of public service experience, professionalism and contributions to strategic communication, public relations and information management.

“His experience across the two ministries reflects his longstanding involvement in public sector communication and information management.

“The association particularly acknowledges his contributions to health communication, including the dissemination of critical pu blic health information during emergencies such as the Ebola outbreak, COVID-19 pandemic, Lassa fever and diphtheria outbreaks.

“HEWAN recognises the importance of effective communication in public health emergency response, particularly in ensuring that accurate and timely information reaches the public. Clear communication helps people understand health risks, make informed decisions and respond appropriately to public health advisories.

“The association also highlights the role of strategic communication in building public confidence in government health interventions.

“Effective engagement with communities and access to reliable information are essential to addressing misinformation and ensuring that public health messages reach diverse audiences.

“His background in public affairs and information management provides valuable experience for contributing to effective communication and policy implementation across the public service,” the statement read.

The association expressed confidence that Ogunbanwo will bring his institutional knowledge, professional experience and commitment to service to bear on his new responsibilities.

HEWAN urged him to sustain his commitment to professionalism, integrity and accountability, particularly in strengthening communication between government institutions and the public.

It further wished Ogunbanwo success in his new role and opportunities to contribute to the development of the Lagos State Public Service and the advancement of effective governance.
