Governor Diri Dismisses Critics, Says ‘Evil Prayers’ Against Bayelsa Projects Will Fail

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has responded to critics of his administration, declaring that attempts to undermine his government through what he described as “evil prayers” will not succeed.

He made the remarks on Thursday during the state’s weekly Prosperity Walk, where he addressed residents on ongoing developments and challenges in the state.

Governor Diri said his administration remains focused and resilient, stressing that his leadership is guided by strong faith and determination. According to him, those wishing for the failure of his government’s initiatives will not achieve their aims.

The governor specifically addressed concerns surrounding the state’s gas turbine project, alleging that some individuals have been actively praying for its failure despite its importance to Bayelsa’s development.

He further claimed that there had been attempts by certain persons to sabotage the facility. However, he noted that such efforts were unsuccessful due to the presence of strong security protecting the installation.

Diri reassured residents that there is no technical fault with the gas turbine, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise as false and misleading. He maintained that the project remains intact and operational.

The governor also accused some critics of opposing progress, alleging that certain individuals are unhappy because his administration has exposed what he described as long-standing plans to hinder the state’s development.

He said such critics continue to portray Bayelsa negatively, but insisted that his government is working to change that narrative and reposition the state for sustainable growth.

Using a family analogy, Diri expressed concern over what he described as a lack of support from some residents.

“When a child is doing well, parents should be proud. But here, some people prefer to destroy the child,” he said.

He called on citizens to unite behind his administration, emphasizing that meaningful development requires cooperation rather than division.

Governor Diri reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his mandate, expressing confidence that ongoing projects, including the gas turbine, will ultimately benefit the people of Bayelsa State.
