Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reiterated his administration’s dedication to safeguarding cultural heritage while fostering the empowerment of women and girls through the creation of a secure, inclusive environment for their growth and success.

Addressing attendees at the 2025 Ovia Osese Festival in Ogori, located in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, Ododo described the festival as both a cherished cultural institution and a guiding moral force. He noted that the event aligns with his administration’s efforts to instill dignity, discipline, and purposeful living among the youth.

In a statement issued Saturday by his special adviser on media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo said: “This festival which honours young girls who have preserved their purity and discipline is a shining example of how our culture can promote virtue, character and community strength.

“As a government, we see our daughters as the future. We are committed to creating opportunities and safe spaces for them to grow, lead, and succeed,” he added.

The governor praised the Ogori community for preserving the festival’s longstanding tradition and urged other communities to uphold cultural practices that support the moral and developmental goals of young women and girls.

He highlighted ongoing state initiatives aimed at boosting gender inclusion, improving access to quality education and healthcare, and promoting skill acquisition for women and girls across Kogi.

Ododo further emphasized the need to maintain the peace and unity currently enjoyed by the Ogori community, underscoring the benefits of stability for the people’s welfare.

The governor also pointed to Kogi’s record of high female representation in governance, noting the active role of women in shaping policy and advancing community development. He stressed that sustained investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure are vital for the state’s growth and the future of its youth.

He called for a balance between preserving traditional values and embracing modernization, encouraging community leaders to partner with government efforts to instill positive values in younger generations.

“At a time when modern influences often change traditional values, the Ovia Osese festival reminds us of who we are, it teaches our young people that self respect, discipline and moral clarity are not outdated concepts but they are endearing foundations upon which great societies are built,” he said.

Governor Ododo urged the people of Ogori to continue fostering peace, unity, and solidarity to strengthen cultural bonds across the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing equity, protecting the rights of women and girls, and building an inclusive future for all residents of Kogi State.

The governor also invited tourists, cultural enthusiasts, and development partners to support the festival, noting that Kogi remains open for tourism, investment, and cultural exchange.
