KenGen Board of Directors has appointed former Sabatia Member of Parliament Alfred Agoi Masadia as Chairman of the company.

In a notice shared on Friday, the company announced that its Board of Directors made the appointment during a meeting on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

“The Board of Directors of KenGen at its meeting of Thursday, 5th December 2024 appointed Alfred Agoi Masadia as the Chairman of the Company,” read the notice in part.

Before his appointment, Agoi had been serving as a Non-Executive Director of the company since August 8.

Alfred Agoi Appointed KenGen Chairperson

The Board stated that, with his wealth of experience as a strategic leader and a practitioner in public policy, governance, and administration, the company would greatly benefit from his expertise.

They expressed confidence in his ability to lead the board in executing its oversight mandate and guiding KenGen as Africa’s leading geothermal producer.

“Agoi is committed to delivering the KenGen G2G 2024-2034 Strategy and provision of the much-needed electric energy to power and transform the Kenyan economy,” the Board said.

“We are pleased to welcome Hon. Alfred Agoi as the new Chairman of the KenGen Board.”

Former MP Express Appreciation

On his part, Agoi expressed gratitude to President William Ruto and the entire KenGen fraternity for believing in him.

He acknowledged the efforts and good work of his predecessors who served in the position, including education CS Julius Ogamba Migos and the immediate former Chairman, Engineer Frank Konuche.

“I understand the importance of this role, and I am committed to working diligently together with Board Members, KenGen family and stakeholders to ensure the organization operates harmoniously and adds value to the company’s performance,” he said.

“Together, we will achieve greater things. We will work hard to ensure that we continue being the leading generator of green energy to support the Kenya Kwanza Transformation Agenda led by His Excellency President William Ruto. Once again, thank you for this incredible.”

About Agoi

The 59-year-old holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics, Government) and a master’s in business administration (Strategic Management) Degrees, both from the University of Nairobi.

He has previously worked as the Marketing Director at Ideal Office Products Limited and the Chief Executive Officer at Kingsway Business Systems Limited. 

He is the immediate Member of Parliament for Sabatia Constituency which he served for two terms from 2013 to 2022.

During his tenure in Parliament, Agoi was a member of several Parliamentary Committees including the Budget Appropriations Committee, Health Committee, Regional Integration Committee and the Special Funds Accounts Committee.

Agoi vied for the Vihiga governor seat in 2022 under the Amani National Coalition (ANC) but lost to Governor Wilberforce Otichilo.
